About GP Carpool
Grosse Pointe isn't a full-busing district. Bus eligibility is limited — generally students beyond 1.5 miles from their resident school — in-district transfers get no bus service at all, and plenty of kids fall outside those lines. So walking, biking, or a parent driving has always carried more of the load here than in districts with full busing.
That gap has gotten harder to ignore lately. Recent school closures and boundary changes have put some kids farther from their assigned school than before, and a meaningful number now have to get themselves across or along I-94 to get there. That's not a walk or bike ride most parents are comfortable with, especially for younger kids or in bad weather.
It's also not just a boundaries problem. A lot of Grosse Pointe households have two working parents now, and there isn't always a grandparent or a neighbor down the street the way there used to be. Coordinating a 7:45 a.m. drop-off around a 6:30 a.m. start at the office is a daily puzzle, and one late work call or one flat tire shouldn't mean choosing between being late for work and your kid being late for school. Families with more going on and less built-in slack are exactly who this is for.
GP Carpool exists to close that gap the way neighbors always have: informally, one ride at a time. If you're already driving that direction and have room, post it. If you're trying to figure out how your kid gets to school and a neighbor might already be headed that way, post that too. No app fixes school transportation policy. But neighbors already helping each other out, made a little easier to find, can fix a lot of individual Tuesday mornings.
Read this first — who runs GP Carpool
This is a neighbor-to-neighbor bulletin board put together by a Grosse Pointe resident. It is independent and volunteer-run, and it is not affiliated with, operated by, sponsored by, or endorsed by the Grosse Pointe Public School System, Grosse Pointe South, Grosse Pointe North, or any other GPPSS school. Nobody at the district has anything to do with it.
- • We don't schedule rides, take money, or run any kind of logistics.
- • We don't screen, verify, or background-check anyone. No license, insurance, or driving record is checked.
- • You post what you can do or what you need, you find each other, and the rest happens by phone between the two of you.
- • Your phone number stays hidden unless you check the box to show it.
What this site is not
- • Not a school program, and not connected to GPPSS in any way.
- • Not a rideshare company. Nobody is paid, and no money changes hands here.
- • Not a scheduling service. You and the other parent handle the plan yourselves.
- • Not a screening service. We don't check licenses, insurance, or records.
